Bhubaneswar, Sep 26 (PTI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday handed over appointment letters to 1,101 newly recruited officers in four state government departments and urged them to stay away from corruption.
Addressing the gathering, Majhi said a government job was not merely a means of employment or financial security but an opportunity to serve the state and society.
He said the competence, dedication and sense of duty of the newly appointed officers would contribute to the government’s vision of a “Prosperous Odisha by 2036” and “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
Majhi said 46,575 youths had been inducted into government service through 17 job fairs since the government was formed two years and three months ago.
Among those appointed on Sunday were 814 medical officers and 92 assistant professors in the Health and Family Welfare Department, 30 Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officers, 42 Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) officers, 46 Odisha Finance Service (OFS) officers, 60 Odisha Taxation and Accounts Service (OTAS) officers and 17 Cooperative Service officers.
The chief minister urged the newly appointed doctors to serve the state’s 4.5 crore people as they would their own families.
He described OAS and ORS officers as the backbone of the administration and said effective revenue assessment, tax collection and financial discipline by OFS and OTAS officers would strengthen the state’s economy.
Urging the cooperative officers to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Samavaya se Samruddhi’, Majhi asked them to expand the cooperative sector beyond credit services and involve farmers, women and rural entrepreneurs.
Warning that corruption could damage a government officer’s career, Majhi said the Vigilance Department had been given autonomy to implement the government’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards corruption.
He also urged the officers to maintain the dignity of their offices, give priority to public grievance hearings and ensure prompt resolution of complaints.
