Mayiladuthurai (Tamil Nadu), Apr 16 (PTI) NTK chief Seeman on Thursday charged both the ruling DMK and AIADMK for providing freebies instead of improving the health and education sectors in the state.
He assured that if his party comes to power after the April 23 polls, he would upgrade all government hospitals, provide better education, proper drinking water and ensure the welfare of the farmers, besides solving the unemployment issue.
“Freebie culture should have been stopped. They (Dravidian parties) should have concentrated on improving the standards of the people,” Seeman said during a poll rally here.
Alleging that the DMK and AIADMK were ruling the state for several decades by wooing people through freebies and various financial assistance schemes, Seeman asked, “From where do they get money, and the state debt has crossed Rs 10 lakh crore.” The DMK, in its election manifesto for upcoming Assembly polls, has announced providing a coupon worth Rs 8,000 under the ‘Illatharasi’ (homemaker) scheme to buy new/replace household electronic appliances for their family, increasing the monthly grant under ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai’ (women entitlement) to Rs 2,000, from the present Rs 1,000.
Similarly, the AIADMK has announced free refrigerators for all rice ration cardholders, three free LPG cylinders per year to eligible households and one-time grant of Rs 10,000 to every family to manage tax burden and price rise.
Seeman alleged that both the Dravidian parties allied with the Congress and BJP, which did nothing to the people of Tamil Nadu. The DMK and AIADMK could not bring education to the state list.
Also, the Congress and BJP could not solve the Cauvery river issue between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and the Mullaperiyar dam row between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he said.
