Noida, Jul 15 (PTI) Noida Police dismantled an inter-state cannabis smuggling network, arresting a key suspect and seizing 205 kg of contraband, estimated to be worth around Rs 30 lakh, officials said on Monday.

The cannabis was procured from Odisha and was being taken to Ghazipur in Delhi for delivery but the truck in which it was being transported was intercepted in Noida, they said.

The arrest was made on Sunday after a targeted operation based on a tip-off, according to Additional DCP (Central Noida) Hirdesh Katheriya.

Kasam Din, the suspect, was apprehended near the foot overbridge at Chijarsi while transporting the cannabis from Odisha to Ghazipur, Katheriya said.

“The cannabis was concealed under crates in the truck,” he said.

Kasam Din revealed during questioning that he was instructed by two individuals, Shakti Singh from Bihar and truck owner Tasleem from Mewat, Haryana, to deliver the cannabis. He confessed that he got lost and ended up in Greater Noida, where he was eventually apprehended, police said.

“The accused was transporting cannabis from Odisha, where it is bought at lower prices, to Western Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states for higher profits,” Katheriya stated.

“The network involved buying cannabis in Odisha and distributing it across multiple states,” he added.

The officer said police are currently investigating the criminal history of Kasam Din and identifying others involved in the smuggling network, including Shakti Singh and Tasleem.

The suspect, aged 38, hails from Naraka village in Ramgarh, Alwar district, Rajasthan, according to police.

An FIR has been registered under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sector 63 Police Station in Noida for production, possession, sale, purchase, transport, warehousing, use, consumption, import inter-state, export inter-state, or shipment of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, police added.
