Patna, Oct 16 (PTI) Nobel laureate economist Esther Duflo on Friday met Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary who described it as a courtesy visit.

Choudhary shared a photograph of himself with Duflo on social media, stating that the meeting was a ‘courtesy call’ held at Lok Sevak Bhawan, the official residence of the chief minister.

Duflo, an American citizen of French origin, jointly won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2019, jointly with her husband Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating poverty”.

Notably, Banerjee, who studied in Kolkata and Delhi before taking US citizenship, is the second person of Indian origin after Amartya Sen to win the Nobel Prize in economics. PTI NAC NN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
