New Delhi: To mark the International Yoga Day, a senior officer of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and other officials participated in the performance of Yoga on the premises of the Commission, a NHRC media report stated.
NHRC, India Acting Chairperson, Smt Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, asled the senior officers and staff of the Commission in performing Yoga on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Earlier, she addressed them, saying that Yoga is a ‘Sanatan’ Indian tradition, which has a scientific basis for ensuring good health and happiness of individuals and society. Yoga should be practiced everyday not only for one’s own good but also for the universal peace. The United Nation had decided to observe the International Yoga Day on June 21 every year. This day is also the longest day for the Sun’s journey from east to west, which gives it its maximum energy for life on the Earth.
The significance of this day is not only to promote peace and harmony but also to improve the health and well-being of people all over the world. NHRC, India is committed to promoting the health and well-being of its people through yoga.
