Hyderabad, Apr 30 (PTI) Six Siberian Huskies were rescued by two animal welfare NGOs after they were found on the Shankarpally-Patancheru Road in an alleged case of cruelty, officials said.
An animal welfare NGO claimed in a social media post that more than 40 Siberian Huskies were transported in a container and allegedly abandoned in the area.
The NGO further claimed that one dog was found dead.
The NGO said it was not clear who was allegedly responsible for abandoning the dogs, but expressed suspicion that breeders or research laboratories could be involved.
Siberian Huskies are bred for cold climatic conditions, and India’s hot weather can be challenging for the breed. They are priced at Rs 40,000 and above in the country, sources said.
Police said there was no evidence so far to support claims of large-scale abandonment in the area.
A police official said they had not received any prior information regarding such an incident, noting that the Shankarpally–Patancheru Road is a busy stretch.
The official said it was not clear how the dogs came to be found at the location and suggested the possibility that they may have been released by a breeder. This, however, remains unverified.
Police said they were informed about the matter by the NGO and added that no formal complaint had been lodged so far. PTI GDK SJR SSK
