Thane, Sep 11 (PTI) The next Vishwa Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (World Marathi Literary Conference) will be held in London to provide a global platform for Marathi diaspora, entrepreneurs and culture, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has said.
He was speaking at an event in the UK capital after receiving the Global Pride of Maharashtra award, a release from his office said.
“No matter where a Marathi person goes out in the world, they never forget their roots, language or culture,” Shinde was quoted as saying.
Shinde also reiterated the state government’s commitment to preserving Marathi heritage and assured the Maharashtra Mandal in London of full support.
He also noted that iconic Marathi leaders such as Dr B R Ambedkar, Lokmanya Tilak and V D Savarkar had an association with London.
Maharashtra was on its way to become a USD 1.5 trillion economy by following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, he said, adding that infrastructure projects such as the Atal Setu, Samruddhi Expressway, the Mumbai-Pune Missing Link Tunnel, and the Rs 76,000-crore Vadhavan Port were testament to Maharashtra’s position as India’s growth engine.
