Bijnor (UP), Apr 23 (PTI) A 50-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his nephew over a land dispute in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district on Thursday evening, police said.

Bijnor Circle Officer Sangram Singh said the alleged incident took place in the Dida Nangli village when Ishaq (50) and his nephew Shane Raja allegedly got into an argument over installing a tubewell in a field.

“During the altercation, Shane Raja opened fire at Ishaq, critically injuring him,” Singh said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police said, adding that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

According to the police, the accused has surrendered. He is said to be posted as a constable in the excise department in Meerut.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the two sides had been embroiled in a long-standing land dispute, police added. PTI COR ABN — MNK MNK
