The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) have successfully completed the third batch of the Leadership Programme in Science & Technology (LEADS). The programme was held in New Delhi from July 8 to 14, 2024, and saw the participation of 37 scientists from various institutions, a PIB press release stated.

The objective of the LEADS programme is to provide an impetus to the growth of scientific leadership and good governance in scientific institutions and laboratories across the country. The programme seeks to equip the participants with the skills and knowledge required to manage these institutions effectively in order to meet the national goals and priorities. The comprehensive training on leadership principles, administrative practices, financial management, communication skills, and policy matters will strengthen the capacities of the participating scientists for leadership and good governance in scientific institutions and laboratories.

The third batch of the LEADS programme saw 38 percent female participation, which is a significant increase in the previous two batches, where only 14 percent and 25 percent of participants were women, respectively. This indicates the programme’s commitment to promoting gender diversity in leadership roles.

The programme was also attended by scientists from 14 states and 17 cities across India, representing a diverse range of institutions.

The INSA-NCGG LEADS July 2024 programme has received positive feedback from the participants and the institutions. The programme has helped them learn the skills and knowledge about the management of scientific institutions and laboratories effectively. The participants have also expressed their confidence that the programme will have a positive impact on their professional life and contribute to the development of the country.
