Latehar, Jul 15 (PTI) A Naxalite, having a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head, surrendered before the police in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Tuesday, officials said.

Lavkesh Ganjhu was the sub-zonal commander of Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of CPI (Maoist), they said.

He surrendered before Inspector General (Palamu) Sunil Bhaskar, Latehar’s SP Kumar Gaurav, CRPF Commandant of 11th battalion Yadram Bunkar and SSB Commandant Rajesh Singh.

“Ganjhu was wanted in 50 cases in different police stations in the Palamu division,” the SP said.

He was involved in a gunfight with the police in Bokakhar forest, he added.

The IG said Naxalites were surrendering due to joint action by the CRPF, SSB and police.

Ganjhu was the only leader left in the outfit after JJMP supremo Pappu Lohra was killed in a gunfight with the police in May, another official said. PTI CORR SAN SOM
