Thane, Jul 4 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly misappropriating Rs 1.90 crore meant to replenish ATMs in Navi Mumbai, a police official said on Friday.

Accused Dhanraj Bhoir, an ATM operator with a private firm, committed the act between February and June this year, said Kalamboli police station senior inspector Rajendra Kothe.

“He was given cash to place into 16 ATMs at Kalamboli, Kamothe and Kharghar. However, he misappropriated Rs 1.90 crore and used it for his personal benefit. The crime came to light when an internal audit found discrepancies in ATM cash refill records. Bhoir was identified as the sole link between all these ATMs,” Kothe said.

He was arrested after a case was registered on Thursday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal breach of trust and other offences. the official added.

A probe is underway to recover the stolen funds and also to find out if Bhoir had associates in this crime, Kothe said. PTI COR BNM
