Jaipur, Jul 1 (PTI) Doctors are not only caregivers but also guides for public health, medical experts said at a programme conducted at Rajasthan Hospital here to mark the National Doctors’ Day on Wednesday.

Several medical practitioners emphasised on the importance of preventive healthcare and public awareness at the programme.

Speaking at the event, hospital chairman Dr S S Agrawal said that doctors play a role beyond just treating illnesses.

“Doctors not only treat diseases but also protect hope, trust and humanity. A healthy future for society depends on the dedication, service and compassion of doctors,” he said.

The hospital’s president Dr Virendra Singh said that doctors today are not just caregivers but also guides for public health. “Modern medicine must focus not only on treatment but also on prevention and promotion of a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

The event featured a panel discussion on the link between herpes zoster and cardiovascular diseases. Programme coordinator Dr Dinesh Mathur said recent advances show the infection can affect not just nerves but the entire body, including blood vessels, potentially increasing cardiac risks.

Among the key speakers, Dr Ravindra Singh Rao highlighted that studies indicate a higher risk of heart attack and stroke following herpes zoster infection.

Dr Kailash Chandra and Dr A D Mathur also shared expert insights.

A public health poster titled “Healthy Woman, Healthy Family, Healthy Nation,” prepared by Dr Veena Acharya, was released on the occasion.

Experts including Dr Sheetu Singh, Dr Taru Chhaya, Dr Ananya Parik, Dr Pooja Jangid and Dr Raghav Shah stressed the importance of nutrition, vaccination, early detection and active lifestyle for women’s health.

The programme also included participation from senior doctors such as Dr Sarvesh Agrawal, Dr Vijay Saraswat and Dr R M Batwara.

Mathur said the event served as an important platform combining medical education, scientific dialogue and social responsibility, while reinforcing the need for preventive healthcare in society. PTI AG RUK RUK
