Dimapur, Apr 30 (PTI) In a move to modernise road traffic management in Nagaland’s Dimapur, a centralised monitoring centre was inaugurated on Thursday.

Under this project, 14 CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras at four congested locations – Dhobinala, Tragopan, Purana Bazaar and Nagarjan — have been installed.

Inaugurating the project at East Police Station, Dimapur Commissioner of Police, Aotula T Imchen said the authorities seek to unclog the heavily congested locations in Dimapur, one of the largest cities in Nagaland.

The move is a strategic effort to improve traffic flow and significantly reduce air pollution levels caused by vehicular emissions in high-traffic zones, she said.

The project has been funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

Imchen said this initiative will enable better traffic flow by allowing traffic personnel to respond quickly and thereby reducing vehicle emissions caused by congestion.

This project lays the foundation for adopting smart traffic technologies in the future, leading to more efficient and advanced traffic management.

Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in the effective use of newly installed safety equipment.

He noted that the technology will significantly assist the police and district administration in detecting crime and identifying traffic violators, ultimately leading to improved road safety across the district. PTI CORR NBS NN
