Nagaland: BJP’s Daochier Imchen leads in Koridang assembly bypoll

Kohima, May 4 (PTI) BJP’s Daochier Imchen was leading by 1,599 votes over his nearest rival, Independent candidate Toshikaba, in the by-election to Koridang assembly constituency in Mokokchung district of Nagaland.

Imchen polled 4,554 votes, while Toshikaba bagged 2,955 votes after two rounds of counting. A total of three rounds of counting will be held.

Another Independent candidate, Imtiwapang, was at the third spot with 2,550 votes. I Abenjang of the National People’s Party (NPP) bagged 2,252 votes.

The counting of votes began at 8 am at the deputy commissioner’s office amid tight security.

The bypoll, necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen in November last year, witnessed a strong voter turnout of 82.21 per cent on April 9, with 18,400 of the 22,382 electors exercising their franchise across 30 polling stations. PTI NBS NBS ACD
