Mumbai, Apr 22 (PTI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday lauded the woman who confronted Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan over traffic chaos during a BJP rally in Mumbai, claiming she “showed the mirror” to him and others protesting over the women’s quota bill.
Mahajan faced the ire of the woman, angered by traffic snarls in the Worli area of Mumbai on Tuesday during the BJP’s demonstration over the defeat of the women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha.
The episode, captured on video, quickly gained traction online, amplifying criticism of the BJP’s protest tactics.
The agitated woman confronted the minister, shouting at him for blocking roads and causing inconvenience to commuters.
Former Rajya Sabha member Chaturvedi, in a post on X, targeted the ruling BJP over the incident.
“In Mumbai daily commute includes hours of being stuck in traffic jams and instead of understanding the fast losing patience at these gatherings/VIP movements that hold up traffic the ruling dispensation doesn’t seem to care, even the minister’s attitude is so disrespectful and dismissive,” she charged.
“Hats off to the lady from Mumbai who showed a mirror to Minister Girish Mahajan and BJP protestors for blocking traffic to carry out their political protest,” Chaturvedi added.
Why was BJP protesting on the streets instead of a designated ground? Who gave them permission to carry out the protest during peak traffic hours? Why should people suffer due to the political showmanship of the BJP? she asked.
“Her (the woman’s) anger is not just of hers but every single Mumbaikar who face the commute woes,” Chaturvedi said.
Mahajan on Wednesday said some commuters faced inconvenience during a BJP-backed march in Worli on Tuesday, but maintained that the woman who confronted him over traffic snarls used inappropriate language.
The minister said he apologised to the woman at the spot and also asked the police not to take any harsh action against her. PTI PR GK
