Mumbai, Mar 31 (PTI) Marking an extraordinary milestone of 204 years, Mumbai Samachar, Asia’s oldest newspaper, will launch a week-long celebration, including musical performances and spiritual discourses, in honour of Indian languages.

‘Matrubhasha Bhagwat Saptah’ is being organised by Matrubhasha Pratishthan, inspired by Mumbai Samachar, with the vision of harmoniously blending spirituality, culture, and linguistic pride.

The event will take place from April 2 to April 8 at the Chikuwadi Ground in the western suburb of Borivali West.

The primary objective of this initiative is to honour and express gratitude to literary stalwarts who have dedicated their lives to preserving and promoting diverse mother tongues.

A distinctive highlight of the event is the felicitation of 151 distinguished literary personalities from across the nation.

Attendees will gain insight into the lives, works, and invaluable contributions made by literary personalities to languages such as Marathi, Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali.

Mumbai Samachar editor Nilesh Dave is leading the event with support from the Adani Group.

“As a society, we have gradually forgotten our literary figures, and the condition of many of the mother tongues is not strong, as they face increasing challenges and external influences. Through this initiative, an effort is being made to support and promote mother languages, while also remembering literary contributors and repaying our intellectual and cultural debt to them,” Dave said.
