Thane, May 13 (PTI) A local train heading to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai overshot a platform at a station in neighbouring Thane district on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The incident occurred at the Thansit railway station on the Central Railway (CR) route in Shahapur taluka around 4.10 pm, they said, adding that an inquiry will be conducted into it.
Overshooting a platform means the train continues to move beyond its intended stopping point on the platform, going past the designated area for passengers to board or alight.
“Six coaches of the local train went ahead of the platform at the station in Kasara-Kalyan section on the main line of the CR,” an official said.
Following the incident, the train was detained at the station for eight minutes before it departed for further journey towards Kalyan, he said.
No injuries or disruption to services were reported due to it, the official said, adding that the train crew was changed in Kalyan.
An inquiry will be conducted into the incident, the official said. PTI KK NP
