Bhopal, Sep 29 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to provide 20 per cent horizontal reservation to former Agniveers in uniformed services and also approved schemes and projects worth more than Rs 24,500 crore to accelerate overall development of the state.
These decisions were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the state secretariat here, an official said.

Besides, in a major decision towards youth empowerment, the cabinet decided to provide 20 per cent horizontal reservation to former Agniveers in uniformed services such as police constables, Special Armed Forces, jail guards, forest guards, and excise constables, the official said.
As per the decision, 10 per cent reservation will be given to Home Guards, 5 per cent to ex-servicemen, and 20 per cent to Agniveers in the recruitment of Constables (General Duty) under the Home Department.
Similarly, it has been decided to provide 10 per cent reservation to Home Guards, 5 per cent to ex-servicemen and 20 per cent to former Agniveers in the Special Armed Force under the Home Department. Besides, 15 per cent reservation will be given to Home Guards, 5 per cent to ex-servicemen and 20 per cent to ex-Agniveers in the appointment of jail guards under the prison department, the official said.
Similarly, 15 per cent reservation will be given to Home Guards, 5 per cent to ex-servicemen and 20 per cent to former Agniveers in the appointment of forest guards. Also, 10 per cent quota will be provided to Home Guards, 5 per cent to ex-servicemen and 20 per cent to former Agniveers in the appointment of excise constables under the Commercial Tax Department (horizontal), the official said.
The horizontal reservation is a type of quota that is provided across all categories, namely the General Category as well as reserved categories — Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Under the 2022 Agnipath scheme, the Centre will retain 25 per cent of Agniveers in the armed forces (Army, Navy and Air Force), while the remaining 75 per cent will be released from service. Recruits under the scheme, known as Agniveers, serve for a total duration of four years, which includes 6 months of training, before they are retained or released.
To strengthen education and health services, the cabinet approved Rs 5,329.17 crore for payment of honorarium to more than 76,000 guest teachers over the next five years (2026-27 to 2030-31), Rs 348.7 crore for school uniforms, and Rs 3,245.8 crore for health centres and drug control, he stated.
Under infrastructure expansion, the construction of the Damoh-Katni four-lane road at a cost of Rs 4,470.30 crore, Rs 3,580.22 crore for the Rural Development Fund, and the continuation of the Banda major irrigation projects in Datia, Neemuch, and Sagar, along with the Kanh Diversion Project in Ujjain in view of Simhastha Kumbha Mela 2028, were approved by the cabinet.
These decisions will accelerate employment generation, boost infrastructure, and strengthen social welfare schemes, the official said.
The cabinet approved a sum of Rs 348.7 crore to provide school uniform assistance to students via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). As per the decision, funds will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of parents or students enrolled in Grades 1 to 8 in government schools for the ongoing 2026-27 academic session.
In the state’s government primary, secondary, high, and higher secondary schools, arrangements have been made to fill vacant teaching positions based on the approved subject scales through guest teachers, the official said.
Currently, more than 76,000 guest teachers are employed in the state, he added. PTI MAS RSY
