Ashoknagar (MP), Jul 8 (PTI) A Congress MLA in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday targeted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over its role in India’s freedom struggle, inviting a sharp reaction from the ruling BJP.

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari, former chief minister Digviajaya Singh, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar and other party leaders on Tuesday staged a ‘Nyaya Satyagraha’ in Ashoknagar, to protest against the FIR lodged against Patwari for allegedly forcing a person to make false claims.

Last month, the Mungaoli police in Ashoknagar district had registered a case against Patwari in connection with the news of assaulting and feeding faeces to a youth of Lodhi community of Mudra Barwah village.

Speaking during the protest, Congress MLA Sahab Singh Gurjar from Gwalior Rural assembly seat said, “Friends, men took part in the war while eunuchs went to the Sangh.” A video of the legislator’s statement also surfaced on social media and was widely circulated.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back at him and questioned whether the opposition leader used a similar word for former CM Kamal Nath and former Union minister Arun Yadav as they did not join the Congress’ ‘Nyaya Satyagraha’.

Madhya Pradesh government minister Vishwas Sarang termed the Congress’s protest in Ashoknagar as “unsuccessful”, and alleged that the opposition party tried to stage a “vulgar” agitation.

“This protest presents a strong example of factionalism in the Congress,” he said.

Sarang said that this statement of the Congress MLA was an insult to the third gender and women.

The minister said the BJP strongly condemns such a statement in a civilised society. PTI COR MAS NP
