Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav transferred three IPS officers, including the Chambal IG and DIG, late Sunday, citing “regrettable behaviour” at a public event.
The transfers followed poor crowd management after the virtual inauguration of Datia airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, when a massive crowd entered the airport premises as several political leaders headed to the airstrip to flag off the first flight.
The inauguration was held outside the airport, but according to senior state government officials, the crowd, including spectators as well as political workers, followed the political leaders.
The leaders included civil aviation minister Rammohan Naidu and former state home minister Narottam Mishra.
After the report reached the Chief Minister’s Office, Mohan Yadav ordered the transfer of all three senior officers.

Chambal Inspector General (IG) Shushant Saxena has been moved to the IG police headquarters, whereas Chambal Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Surabh Kumar has been moved to the SC-ST department.
Datia Superintendent of Police (SP) Virendra Mishra has been posted as the assistant IG at the Bhopal police headquarters. Suraj Kumar, who was posted in Indore, has now been made the Datia SP.
A senior officer told ThePrint that as the crowd made its way inside the airport, IG Saxena urged the SP to handle the crowd, asking if the IG was expected to handle the crowd.
The officer said Datia SP Mishra responded to the IG’s remarks, reportedly saying, “What you are seeing is what I see. What can I do? I cannot shoot people.”
“In essence, the SP objected to the manner in which the IG had spoken to him and after a brief exchange of remarks, he walked out of the venue even as the DIG tried to intervene between the two,” the officer said.
According to witnesses, the heated exchange took place in the presence of other administrative officers at the airport during the inauguration. After the incident, SP Virendra Mishra walked out of the venue.
