Maihar (MP), Aug 19 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav set aside the traditional speech on Wednesday and sang the popular Hindi song, “Phoolon ka taaron ka sabka kehna hai,” as he marked the latest transfer under the flagship Ladli Behna Scheme.

Yadav transferred Rs 2,148 crore to the accounts of more than 1.25 crore women, giving each beneficiary Rs 1,750, including an additional Rs 250 as a Rakshabandhan gift.

He also inaugurated and performed groundbreaking ceremonies for development projects estimated to cost more than Rs 256 crore in Maihar religious town.

A huge rakhi was presented to the chief minister by members of Jan Abhiyan Parishad.

“While Rakhi (Purnima) comes once a year, we celebrate this festival every month. Today, it is heartening to see the love and numbers of Ladli Behnas,” the chief minister said.

He said traditional festivals bind families together.

“In our culture, the entire earth is considered a family. We consider our trees, plants, rivers, and mountains all part of our family,” Yadav added.

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for India’s improved standing in the global pecking order.

According to Yadav, the BJP-led governments always fulfil promises made to the people.

“Today, I’m reminded of the song, ‘Phoolon ka taron ka kehna hai, sabka kehna hai, ek hazaar meri behna hai’. Our government is receiving the blessings of 1.25 crore sisters. Today, our government has given an additional Rs 250 for the month of Sawan, in addition to the regular amount,” he said.

Yadav added that the inauguration of Mahakal Lok corridor by the prime minister in 2022 has transformed the entire Ujjain district.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the first phase of Maa Sharda Lok corridor, modelled after the Mahakal project, was performed on Wednesday.

“Under the PM’s leadership, the government has successfully eliminated Naxalites and is now running an anti-drug campaign. The government has closed liquor shops in 19 religious cities. It is committed to saving lives and fighting against all forms of addiction,” Yadav said, noting that addiction ruins families.

He appealed to the people to ensure higher education for their children and aim for them to become top officials, while cautioning them against addiction.

In Maihar, women hold 16 important positions, including the Collector Bidisha Mukherjee, he added.

Targeting the Congress, Yadav said that if Congressmen had behaved properly, there would have been a 33 per cent reservation for women in the assembly as well.

“I don’t know what Congress is afraid of. What would be wrong if mothers and sisters entered the Lok Sabha and assemblies?” he asked. PTI MAS NSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
