Bhopal, Jun 16 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved proposals totalling Rs 24,200 crore for infrastructure development and public welfare, and also gave the nod for a revised budget of Rs 19,472.29 crore, including additional funding, for the Indore Metro Rail Project.
The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved the constitution of a five-member sub-committee to implement the “Mega Healthcare Infrastructure Promotion Policy 2026” to expand world-class super-specialty medical facilities and encourage philanthropic investment, an official said, adding that the panel will study all relevant aspects and submit a report.
The cabinet also approved a pilot project to operate community health centres in Rewa, Dewas, and Guna on an outsourcing model to strengthen rural health services.
Under the 16th Finance Commission, Rs 2,381 crore has been allocated for wildlife conservation and the displacement and compensation of 94 villages in sensitive areas for the 2026-2031 period.
Promoting social and economic inclusion, Rs 687 crore has been approved for educational and residential facilities for tribal students, and Rs 639.25 crore for various silk production schemes to promote local employment.
The cost of the Indore Metro Rail Project was revised to Rs 19,427.29 crore with the addition of Rs 5,388.58 crore to the original budget size of Rs 7,500.80 crore and additional funding, the official said.
Additionally, a funding of Rs 6,582.91 crore, including the PPP component and the impact of internal borrowing, has been approved for the project, as per industry-accepted norms, bringing the total approval to Rs 19,472.29 crore, the official said.
The cabinet approved Rs 2,381 crore and Rs 1.5 crore for Project Tiger and Elephant and the Compensation for Village Rehabilitation Scheme, respectively, under the Forest Department for the five-year period from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031, under the Sixteenth Central Finance Commission.
These plans primarily address habitat improvement, fire and forest protection, water source development, forest road maintenance, construction and maintenance of necessary structures, elephant management and protection, and food provision for elephants in the Tiger Reserves, Kuno National Park, and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary.
A sum of Rs 1,250 crore has been approved for the compensation scheme for village rehabilitation. The scheme’s primary objective is to rehabilitate sensitive wildlife habitats within protected forest areas and villages that adversely affect wildlife habitats outside protected forest areas.
This involves acquiring villagers’ immovable property as per law and paying them the prescribed compensation.
The scheme will be implemented in 94 villages under Sanjay Tiger Reserve, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Panna Tiger Reserve, Veerangna Durgavati Tiger Reserve, Ratapani Tiger Reserve, Orchha Sanctuary and Kuno National Park, the official added. PTI MAS NSK
