Agra(UP), Jun 17 (PTI) Authorities on Wednesday demolished a mosque, a ‘mazar’ and a temple, which were allegedly built on pond land, in Agra’s Jagdishpura area following directions from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), officials said.
The demolition drive was carried out near Angoothi village in the Jagdishpura locality against the alleged illegal constructions amid heavy deployment of police and administrative personnel.
Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sachin Rajput said the five-hectare land parcel is recorded as a pond in revenue records and had been encroached upon for the construction of the mosque, mazar and temple.
He said the NGT had ordered removal of encroachments from the water body.
According to the officials, the court of Sadar tehsildar had passed eviction orders against the structures on June 10 and notices were issued to all parties concerned.
During the notice period, the temple management removed the idols from the premises, the officials said.
Rajput said the encroachments comprising the mosque, mazar and temple were removed on Wednesday in compliance with the tribunal’s directions. PTI COR CDN RT
