Thane, Apr 26 (PTI) Justice Sharmila Deshmukh of the Bombay High Court has called for greater participation of women in the mainstream judiciary, emphasising that their leadership qualities and sensitivity are vital for the legal system.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 51st convocation ceremony of the TMC Law College on Saturday, Justice Deshmukh lauded the increasing footprint of women in law.
“Women today possess leadership qualities, analytical skills, and sensitivity, enabling them to play an effective role in the judiciary. There is a pressing need for more women lawyers to join the mainstream,” she said.
Addressing the 150 graduating students, she noted that “new opportunities are emerging in the legal profession” and urged them to explore diverse avenues.
Speaking on the occasion, Thane principal district court judge S. B. Agrawal cautioned students against seeking shortcuts, stating, “Law is not just a profession but a medium of social service. Long-term success can only be achieved through diligence, ethics, and social commitment.” PTI COR NSK
