New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cried at the inauguration of a new school in the capital Wednesday, saying he missed his former colleague and jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia.
He said Sisodia, the former Delhi education minister, had dreamt of every child getting a good education. He said his colleague – “a great man” – is in jail because of fraudulent accusations and court cases. In a veiled attack on the BJP, he said, “They jailed Sisodia because he was giving children a good education.”
They are disturbed that the AAP established such great schools, Kejriwal said, adding, “I heard everywhere how we were educating children here, particularly those who were economically weak.”

The Delhi chief minister also said it was his duty and resolve to give children a better education than what he got. “I want to tell the students of Delhi that your school is better than the one I studied in Hisar, which was the best in that area,” the chief minister said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the School of Excellence at Bawana, Kejriwal said until Sisodia is released, the Delhi government will continue his work with double the speed. “I am sure he will be out very soon because the truth always prevails,” he added.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sisodia on 26 February for allegedly perpetuating a scam in the capital’s excise policy. He was subsequently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 9 March.
The probe agencies have alleged that Sisodia, along with other AAP members, granted liquor licences to a group of leaders from the South in exchange for kickbacks worth Rs 100 crore.
They said the now-withdrawn excise policy of 2021-2022 was tweaked and profit margins changed to benefit these traders.
