New Delhi: The Delhi Police have apprehended a 16-year-old boy for allegedly killing a 17-year-old in northeast Delhi’s Welcome locality late Tuesday. The brutal murder was captured on CCTV, which purportedly shows the accused stabbing the victim close to 60 times and dancing over his body while brandishing a bloodied knife.

According to the police, the accused attacked the teenager with an intent to rob him, but later realised he had only Rs 350 in his pocket. An FIR under IPC section 302 (murder) was registered Wednesday.

In chilling CCTV footage accessed by ThePrint, recorded in a narrow lane of Janta Mazdoor Colony in Welcome, the accused is purportedly seen dragging the victim’s blood-soaked body, then repeatedly stabbing him, and apparently gesturing to passersby to stay away. In between, the killer is seen breaking into a dance with his hands in the air while holding a knife covered in blood. The clip is over two minutes long.

The footage also shows that the killer tried to behead the victim by trying to slice one side of his neck.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said in a statement that the murder took place at around 11.15 pm Tuesday in “Gali no. 18, Idgah Road, Janta Mazdoor Colony”, and that the accused first choked the victim and then launched the brutal assault.

The DCP also said robbery was the “motive”, and that the accused and the victim did not know each other. “The accused first choked the victim with an intent to rob him. When the victim fell unconscious, the accused stabbed him multiple times before robbing him of Rs 350 which he found in his pocket. The victim was taken to GTB Hospital where he was declared as brought dead,” he added.

The 17-year-old victim belonged to the Jaffrabad area.

DCP Tirkey told ThePrint that there can’t be many cases more heinous than this one, and that the police will request the court to prosecute the accused as an adult.

A police officer involved in the investigation told ThePrint on condition of anonymity that the accused, who is being interrogated, has so far shown “no remorse” and appears to be a “smart person”.
