Bareilly (UP), May 15 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a biryani vendor inside a hotel in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Baheri resident Mujahid (25), has been arrested, they added.
According to the police, the rape survivor lodged a complaint at the Baherhi police station, alleging that the man lured her to the hotel around 11 pm on Thursday and raped her.
Baheri Circle Officer Arun Singh said that a case was registered on Friday based on the complaint under section 64(1) (rape) of the BNS and under the POCSO Act, and Mujahid has been arrested.
While the accused is being interrogated, the student has been sent for a medical examination, he added.
Hindu Jagran Manch Yuva, a Hindu organisation, staged a protest outside the hotel and alleged that the incident was a case of “love jihad”. Himanshu Patel, the district president of the Hindu Jagran Manch Yuva, alleged that a hotel in Baherhi has become a hub for “love jihad.” Minor girls are being allowed to stay in that hotel without any verification, he alleged, adding that they have been receiving continuous complaints regarding this matter.
