Latur, Apr 19 (PTI) A seven-year-old boy was found dead hours after he and a friend went missing in Maharashtra’s Latur district on Sunday, while a search was underway for the other child, police said.

The incident was reported from Chakur town, they said.

Saicharan Dinesh Swami (10) and Devansh Mangesh Swami (7), residents of the Old Mahadev Temple lane area, apparently left their home around 7 am, without informing anyone.

After being alerted around 1 pm, police launched a search to trace the boys. An hour later, Devansh was found dead in an open area near an old house along the Chakur-Ujalamb road.

The crime branch has been roped in to trace Saicharan, an official said.

Meanwhile, Devansh’s body has been sent to the Government Hospital in Chakur for a post-mortem.

“A probe is being carried out from multiple angles with the assistance of a forensic team and a dog squad. Authorities are working to ascertain the cause of death of the boy,” the official said.

The Latur district police have urged citizens to avoid spreading rumours and share any relevant information with the authorities immediately. PTI COR NR
