Bilaspur (HP), Oct 17 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh agriculture department has launched the ‘Meri Policy Mere Haath’ campaign, which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, in Bilaspur district to deliver crop insurance policy documents directly at the doorsteps of the insured farmers, officials said on Saturday.

Deputy agriculture director, Bilaspur, Kulbhushan Dhiman, said the main aim of the scheme is to help farmers come forward on a large scale to get their crops insured and receive benefits in case of crop loss.

The month-long special campaign was launched in the district on October 15.

As part of the initiative, representatives from the Agriculture Insurance Company of India will visit the homes of farmers who have taken agricultural loans to hand over their crop insurance policy documents.

Dhiman said that 13,241 loanee farmers have insured their maize and paddy crops in Bilaspur district in an area spanning 2,830 hectares, and will now receive their insurance policies directly at their doorsteps.

Under the restructured weather-based crop insurance scheme, the process for insuring garlic in the district will be open from November 1 to 30, Dhiman said.

Farmers often face financial risks due to crop losses caused by adverse and unpredictable weather conditions. In such a scenario, obtaining crop insurance serves as a crucial step toward ensuring their financial security, Dhiman said. PTI COR BPL ARI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
