New Delhi: The 43-year-old man who has been detained for questioning by the Delhi Police for allegedly trying to enter the residence of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, suffers from hallucinations and is disoriented, sources said. He told the police that he was wearing a “chip” and was being “controlled by someone externally”.

“He suffers from hallucinations and is mentally disturbed, is disoriented. He has been saying different things throughout interrogation. His thoughts don’t appear aligned,” a senior police officer said.

The incident took place Wednesday morning around 7:30 am in front of Doval’s house on Tughlaq road. Sources said that the 43-year-old tried to enter the NSA’s residence, but was stopped by security personnel at the gate. “He tried to crash the gate with a rented red coloured SUV. The car was hired from Noida,” the source said.

Upon getting the information, local people and a team of Delhi Police special cell officers reached the spot. The case is now with the cell.

“He has been detained for questioning, but there are no direct answers. Further investigation is on,” the source said.

According to sources in the Delhi Police, the man, who is a native of Karnataka, came to Delhi on 13 February.

Following the incident, security has been beefed up outside Doval’s residence.

No FIR has been registered so far in the case.

No ‘chip’ found on man

Initially, right after the man was detained, he had claimed that he was wearing a “chip” and was being controlled by someone externally and that it was due to the “chip” that he tried to enter Doval’s house. Sources said that there was no electronic chip found on him.

Ajit Doval’s house is guarded by the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and the NSA is provided Z-plus security. His security is provided by crack CISF commandos. Doval was at his residence when the man tried to break in.

Doval is the fifth and current National Security Advisor to PM Narendra Modi. Appointed as NSA in 2014, Doval was re-appointed to the post and given a cabinet rank in the second term of the NDA government in 2019, with a five-year term.
