The SIT comprised eight specialised police teams, led by officers including ACP (Sadar) Yashwant, ACP (crime against women) Kavita, Inspector Sunil Kumar (SHO-Sadar), and others.
“The teams meticulously analysed footage from 800 CCTV cameras installed in the hospital and conducted thorough interrogations of hospital staff, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused, Deepak, who had been employed as an ICU equipment technician at the hospital for the past five months,” the PRO added.
“We are committed to ensuring justice in this case. The accused has been apprehended, and further investigation is underway.”
The accused is to be presented before a court on 19 April for further legal proceedings.
The case came to light on 14 April, when the survivor, an employee of an international airline, lodged a complaint with the Sadar police station in Gurugram.
She was admitted to the hospital after a near-drowning incident at the hotel, and ThePrint earlier reported that the First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the alleged sexual assault took place while the male hospital employee was performing some kind of inspection.
According to the FIR accessed by ThePrint earlier, she was admitted to the Ayushman Hospital after a near-drowning at the five-star hotel where she was staying on the morning of 5 April. Later that night, around 10 pm, she was shifted to Medanta, where she was placed on ventilator support.
The incident occurred the next day at around 9 pm. At the time, although she was restrained and connected to the ventilator with a breathing tube, she said she was able to comprehend conversations around her.
In the FIR, the survivor alleged that two female nurses and a male employee were in the room, and they appeared to be performing some kind of inventory check.
Under the guise of checking the measurements of her waistband, the survivor alleged that the male employee sexually assaulted her. She was discharged from the hospital on the evening of 13 April and returned to her hotel with her husband. The next morning, she confided in him, and he immediately contacted the police.
An FIR was registered under Sections 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority) and 64(2) (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the survivor’s statement was recorded before a magistrate.
