Lucknow, Jun 16 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday asked party cadres to make efforts to gather the support of Other Backward Classes ahead of the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

At a party meeting in Lucknow, Mayawati reminded party workers of how the BSP stormed to power on its own in 2007 with the support of OBCs, and urged them to ensure that it repeats in the 2027 polls.

A statement from the BSP said, “Directives were issued by BSP chief Mayawati that an effort should be made in the 2027 assembly elections to repeat the historic contribution made by the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the formation of the first full majority government of the BSP in 2007.” The cadres were instructed to remind people of the party’s past governance and convince them that the real benefit and welfare of the OBC community is vested in the BSP and its “iron lady government”.

Mayawati said the contribution of the BSP and its government to real welfare — including the social, political and economic development of OBC communities and Dalits — has been historic, the statement said.

The former chief minister said that to ensure proper social, political and economic development of Dalits and OBCs, the BSP government made different ministries, commissions and development schemes.

Criticising the current administration, she said works related to public welfare and public interest have now been confined to paper because the government’s intention and policies lack honesty. As a result, the condition of the OBC community is not improving.

“However, crying over this is not the solution. The real solution lies in taking the master key of power in one’s own hand through the BSP, and becoming the ruling class instead of the oppressed (class),” Mayawati said in the statement. PTI NAV MAN RUK RUK
