Gurugram, Apr 15 (PTI) A massive fire swept through the slums in Sector 37D here early Wednesday, triggering LPG cylinder explosions and spreading panic, with firefighting teams battling for hours to bring the blaze under control, officials said.
No casualties have been reported, they said.
The fire initially broke out in an empty plot, possibly due to a short circuit near a garbage dump, and spread quickly to adjoining slums due to strong winds. Thick smoke and flames were visible from a distance, they added.
Fire brigade vehicles, along with police and civil defence teams, rushed to the area and brought the blaze under control after several hours of firefighting, they said.
Similar minor fires have occurred in the area before, and residents said they have been demanding regular clean-up drives to prevent garbage accumulation in vacant plots.
