Faridabad, Apr 30 (PTI) A massive fire broke out at a chemical company located on Tatarpur-Jatola Road in Haryana’s Palwal on Thursday afternoon, police said, adding the workers were evacuated safely.
According to fire officials, the incident occurred around 3 pm when a truck loaded with chemicals was being unloaded inside the ADGEL company premises, and a spark triggered the blaze.
The fire quickly spread due to the presence of chemicals and engulfed the entire factory, they said.
Thick plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometres away, triggering panic among nearby villagers and other companies.
The police said by the time the Palwal fire station team reached the spot, the fire had intensified. It took several hours for the fire brigade to bring the blaze under control, by which time much of the factory’s inventory had been destroyed.
However, workers were evacuated safely, they said.
Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly due to the stored chemicals, posing a risk to nearby villages. They also claimed that the fire brigade reached the spot an hour late after the incident and that the factory was gutted in the blaze.
Although the fire has been largely extinguished, some flames were still smouldering, they added. PTI COR SMV ZMN
