Imphal, Apr 15 (PTI) Members of the Congress unit in Manipur on Wednesday met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and expressed concern over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state and urged for necessary steps to restore normalcy.

State Congress chief Okram Ibobi Singh said, “We met the governor and submitted a memorandum to highlight the deteriorating situation in the state. Many innocent lives that could have been saved have been lost.” The three-time former chief minister said the recent firing by CRPF personnel near Gelmol in Bishnupur district, which claimed the lives of three persons, could have been prevented by using non-lethal means.

He said, “The recent incidents in Bishnupur district, including the bomb attack at Tronglaobi that killed two children, can never happen in other states. Is Manipur no longer a part of the country? Why are such incidents being allowed to happen?” Singh said, “We submitted the memorandum seeking to know when normalcy will be restored in the state. A small state like Manipur has reached a point where the entire state can burn and cannot be ignored.” He added that the governor assured the delegation that the concerns would be conveyed to the central government at the earliest.

Meanwhile, a statement by Lok Bhavan Imphal said, “Members of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, led by former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, today called on Governor Manipur and submitted a memorandum.” It said, “The memorandum underscored the need for urgent action in light of the recent incidents in Bishnupur district and the unfortunate loss of lives. The governor informed the delegation that all prompt actions have been initiated, and the matter is under further investigation.” PTI COR MNB
