Kaushambi (UP), Jul 19 (PTI) A man carrying a Rs 25,000 cash reward and wanted in a cow slaughter case was arrested after an exchange of fire with police here, in which he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, officials said on Sunday.
Circle Officer (CO) Shivank Singh said after the Charwa police team received a tip-off on Saturday night that Moinuddin, alias Irfan — an accused in a cow slaughter case — was present near an orchard on the road leading from Kaju Crossing to Malak Nagar, they reached the spot and surrounded him.
He said the accused allegedly opened fire and police retaliated in self-defence, injuring him in the leg before arresting him. He was admitted to the district hospital.
The officer said the accused, a resident of Panara Gopalpur village under the Sarai Akil police station area, possessed a country-made pistol, two spent cartridges and one live cartridge.
On July 14, the CO reported that Sushil Kumar informed the Charwa police station that unidentified individuals had slaughtered a cow in his lemon orchard near ‘Gungwa ka Bagh’ within the station’s jurisdiction, and the remains were lying at the site.
After receiving the information, the police team visited the site, collected samples of the remains, and registered a case following a veterinary officer’s examination.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to slaughtering the cow with an accomplice in a lemon orchard, Singh said. PTI COR NAV SMV ASD
