Gurugram, Aug 5 (PTI) A man was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants, who came dressed as food and grocery delivery agents, in Sector 77 here, police said on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old victim’s brother alleged that the killing late Monday night in front of Palm Hills Society on SPR Road was due to an old property dispute.

The victim was identified as Rohit Shaukeen (40), a resident of Kamruddin Nagar in Delhi.

Shaukeen had come to Gurugram for some work. He was standing outside his car near Ullahwas market in the Sector 77 area around 9 pm when the attackers, who were wearing T-shirts of food delivery company Zomato and quick commerce platform Blinkit, opened fire at him and fled, said police.

The attackers fired over seven bullets, some of which hit Shaukeen, who died on the spot.

A man, Sunil Sardhania, has claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post, police said. Last month, he also claimed responsibility for shooting at Haryanvi singer Rahul Fazilpuria.

In the post, he has threatened Fazilpuria to return the money he took, or else he will commit more murders.

Police have not confirmed the veracity of the post and said that it is a matter of investigation. A man has been arrested for the attack on Fazilpuria, who escaped unharmed.

An FIR was registered at Kherki Daula police station on Tuesday, and several police teams are conducting raids to nab the accused, they added.

According to police sources, one Deepak Nandal is the prime suspect in Shaukeen’s murder. Nandal’s name also came up in the attack on Fazilpuria last month.

After receiving information about the shooting on Monday, a police team reached the spot, and the initial police investigation revealed that the bike-borne assailants had allegedly fired over 7 bullets.

Shaukeen’s brother filed a complaint with the police, saying that he suspects that the murder could be the result of an old property dispute, police said.

The complainant said Shaukeen was a property dealer. “On Monday, Rohit asked me for a car to go to Noida. At around 8.57 pm, my uncle’s son called me and told me that Rohit had been shot.

“I, along with my family members, reached the SPR Road Sector 77, Gurugram, where his car was parked, and there was blood on the road. Rohit was taken to the government hospital by the police. When I reached the hospital, the doctor declared Rohit dead,” the complaint read.

A Gurugram Police spokesperson said several teams are conducting raids to nab the accused.

Police said they are also scanning all CCTV cameras installed around the crime scene, adding that they are investigating all angles. PTI COR SKY SKY
