Shahjahanpur (UP), Apr 15 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was shot dead while his brother was seriously injured following a property dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit said the incident took place late Tuesday night in Bari Khas village. Shyam Sundar was shot dead outside his house while his brother Brijmohan was attacked with a heavy object and sustained serious injuries.
Police said the brothers were living at their maternal grandfather’s house, who had no sons and had bequeathed his property to Sundar. This had led to enmity with the grandfather’s nephew, officials said.
According to Dixit, the victim had gone to his field earlier on Tuesday to cut fodder, where he had an altercation with the accused, identified as Dhanveer Singh, who is related to the family.
Later in the night, the accused allegedly reached the victim’s house and opened fire when Sundar came outside, killing him on the spot, the officer said.
The body has been sent for postmortem, while the injured has been admitted to a government medical college.
