Hubballi (Karnataka), Aug 28 (PTI) A man was murdered in broad daylight in Hubballi on Friday, with police suspecting that past enmity could be behind the killing, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Dadapeer Udayakar (33), a native of Nekar Nagar in Hubballi, they said.
A video of the assault has gone viral on social media, showing a man lying on the road while two persons attack him with sharp weapons.
Dadapeer had been living with his wife and children at Bogenagarakoppa in Kalghatgi taluk, where he had been engaged in agriculture for the past eight years, police said.
Speaking to PTI Videos, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said a murder was reported around 1 pm in the Siddeshwar Park area of Vidyanagar, where two persons allegedly attacked a man with sharp weapons.
“We have tried to zero in on the accused who have committed this offence. Very quickly, we are registering a case and taking up action against the accused,” he said.
According to preliminary information, Dadapeer had earlier been an accused in the 2015 murder of a person named Maruti. He was acquitted in the case in 2017, police said.
His rowdy sheet was also closed about four years ago, police sources said.
Police are investigating whether the killing was an act of revenge linked to the 2015 murder case or whether there was another motive behind the crime. PTI COR AMP SSK
