Gumla, May 22 (PTI) A man was allegedly hacked to death in Jharkhand’s Gumla district during a wedding ceremony after an altercation, a police officer said on Friday.

The incident took place in Lotwa village on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, where the victim had come from a neighbouring village to attend the wedding ceremony, the officer said.

“The victim was identified as Durga Oraon, 27, a resident of Ambatoli village. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to RIMS, Ranchi, on Thursday. We arrested a man named Ganaga Oraon (29) in this connection, and he is being forwarded to jail today,” said Tarun Kumar, officer in-charge of Palkot police station.

The accused confessed to the crime and told police that he had an altercation with someone, but the victim intervened, which enraged him. He then attacked the victim with an axe on his head and locked him inside the bathroom of his house for several hours, the OC said.

On Thursday morning, the victim was found seriously injured and was initially taken to Sadar Hospital in Gumla. Police have recovered the axe used in the murder. PTI RPS RPS RG
