Gurugram, May 12 (PTI) A special POCSO court in Haryana’s Nuh district has sentenced a man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2023, police said on Tuesday.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the offender, they said.
According to a police spokesperson, a case was registered at the Bichhor police station on April 23, 2023, based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
The complaint alleged that the accused, along with his brother, abducted the minor girl from her home and later raped her at gunpoint, threatening to kill her if she revealed her ordeal to anyone.
It also alleged that the accused, who was arrested subsequently, thrashed the girl’s family members when they reached his house searching for the victim, the spokesperson said.
During the investigation, police collected medical reports, witness statements, and other crucial evidence and presented them before the special court.
“After hearing both sides, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment on Monday. The period spent by the convict in judicial custody before sentencing will be adjusted against the sentence,” the spokesperson said. PTI COR ARI
