Bareilly (UP), Jul 21 (PTI) A 32-year-old man was found hanging in his house in Bareilly, police officials said on Monday, with his family alleging that he was murdered by his wife in collusion with her lover and the death was staged to look like a suicide.

The incident took place Sunday in Trikuniya village under Bithri Chainpur police station.

According to the police, the man, identified as Pappu, was found hanging on Sunday night. While his wife claimed he died by suicide, his family has accused her of murder.

Pappu’s brother, Mahendra, alleged that the victim’s wife had been in a relationship with a local man for quite some time. Pappu had apparently confronted her on multiple occasions after overhearing her phone conversations with her lover.

Despite repeated warnings, the alleged affair continued, leading to frequent disputes between the couple, he claimed, adding that on Sunday night, the family was informed that Pappu had hanged himself.

“When we reached the spot, we found that his feet were still touching the ground,” Mahendra said, claiming that his brother was first killed and then hanged to make it appear like suicide.

Superintendent of Police (South) Anshik Verma said the police reached the spot on Sunday night and sent the body for post-mortem after completing the inquest proceedings.

“The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report. The investigation is underway and all angles are being examined,” he said.

The police said they have seized the mobile phones of the deceased husband and his wife for forensic examination. PTI COR KIS KSS KSS
