Thane, Apr 26 (PTI) A fire broke out at a dumping ground in Kalyan city of Maharashtra’s Thane district on Sunday night, officials said.
The blaze, which started at the Aadharwadi dumpyard around 8.30 pm, sent massive flames into the sky that could be seen from a long distance.
No injuries have been reported so far, they said.
Upon receiving the alert, firemen from the local station rushed to the spot.
“Currently, two fire engines from the Aadharwadi fire station are battling the blaze. However, given the intensity of the fire, engines from all fire stations under the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation have been requisitioned,” a fire brigade official said.
Apart from flames, a thick blanket of smoke has enveloped the surrounding areas.
The official said there was another fire at the Umbarde dumping site, which has been put out.
“The operation at Aadharwadi is still ongoing. If the water supply remains consistent throughout the night, we expect to bring the situation under control,” he added. PTI COR NR
