Latur, Oct 10 (PTI) The Maharashtra government stands firmly with farmers amid drought in several talukas and no one will be denied relief, state minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale said on Saturday.

Bhosale, the state’s Public Works Minister and Latur guardian minister, urged distressed farmers not to lose hope or take extreme steps such as suicide.

“The government is committed to helping every affected farmer. It will not allow anyone to be deprived of assistance,” he said after touring several parts of the district.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was personally monitoring the drought situation and had visited Marathwada and Vidarbha to understand the concerns of farmers, Bhosale added.

Bhosale, who inspected soybean crop damage at Shekapur in Udgir tehsil, said the chief minister had also directed ministers and legislators to visit affected areas and provide support to farmers during the crisis.

Bhosale also visited Mahadevwadi in Ahmedpur, Ashta Mod in Chakur, Belsangvi in Jalkot as well as Kolpa and Maharana Pratap Nagar.

“A central team is currently touring Maharashtra to assess the drought situation. It has inspected several locations in Marathwada over the past two days. A meeting between the team and the chief minister will be held. An announcement on assistance is expected soon,” he said.

To ensure drinking water availability, measures like repairing borewells, wells and identifying alternative sources are underway, Bhosale said.

The government is also planning for adequate fodder supplies, with the animal husbandry department taking necessary steps to meet the requirements of livestock, he added. PTI COR BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
