Mumbai, Oct 21 (PTI) The Maharashtra Cyber has issued formal directives to social media platform X to take down objectionable posts and provide account details in connection with an ongoing inquiry into cyber offences, officials said on Wednesday.

The action follows an FIR registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

According to the Nodal Office, which functions as the apex authority for cyber-related crimes in Maharashtra, the case has been registered under Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Authorities noted that the investigation was initiated after fraudulent accounts operating on the platform were found hosting defamatory allegations, offensive remarks, and content capable of outraging the dignity of women and provoking public unrest, a Cyber official said.

As part of the ongoing probe, specific URLs and account details have been submitted to the platform’s grievance and compliance teams, with directions to immediately disable the offending content and furnish subscriber logs and technical identifiers to aid further legal proceedings. PTI ZA NSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
