Nashik, Jan 17 (PTI) The Nashik division graduates’ constituency going to polls on January 30 to elect a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council has 2,62,731 voters, an official said on Tuesday.

In the Nashik division, the highest number of voters are in Ahmednagar district 1,15,638, followed by Nashik district 69,652, Jalgaon district 35,058, Dhule district 23,412, and Nandurbar district 18,971, said Assistant Returning Officer Ramesh Kale.

In all, there are 338 polling centres in the division.

The term of five members of the Legislative Council — two from graduates’ and three from teachers’ constituencies — is expiring on February 7. Voting to elect new members of the Upper House will take place on January 30 and counting will be taken up on February 2.

The otherwise straight elections became interesting after Congress MLC Sudhir Tambe didn’t file nomination for the upcoming polls despite the party’s mandate and instead got his son Satyajit Tambe to enter the fray as an independent in the Nashik division graduates constituency.

BJP rebel Shubhangi Patil has filed her nomination from the Nashik seat as an Independent. The Uddhav Thackeray-faction of Shiv Sena has extended support to her candidature. PTI COR NSK NSK
