Alibag, Jun 8 (PTI) As part of the rehabilitation of survivors, a total of 271 houses are being built by the administration in Taliye village of Maharashtra’s Raigad district, where 87 people were killed in July 2021 after getting buried under the debris of a hillock that came sliding down following heavy rains, an official said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Raigad district collector Yogesh Mhase said the construction of 66 of the total 271 houses has been completed, while 38 others will get ready by Diwali this year.

“With the help of the Maharashtra House and Area Development Authority (MHADA), 271 houses are being built in Taliye village in Mahad taluka. Every family will get a house measuring 623 square feet. These units will be earthquake-resistant,” he said.

Of these, 66 houses have been constructed till date and the administration will allot these houses to the survivors, he said.

The devastating landslide in Taliye had occurred on July 22, 2021, which claimed the lives of 87 people. The Raigad district administration had taken over land to build a colony for those whose houses were damaged in a landslide as it was not possible to construct them at the affected site, officials said.

Systems will be put in place for water supply, drainage and sanitation, collector Mhase said, adding that roads, a school, an ‘anganwadi’ centre and a temple will also be built in the village. PTI COR NP NP
