Agra (UP), Oct 17 (PTI) A 38-year-old man died after two policemen allegedly threw him off the terrace of a building in the Rakabganj area here following a scuffle, his family alleged on Saturday.

The incident took place around midnight on Friday in Rawli, where Lalit Rajput was playing cards with his friends on the terrace of a building’s second floor, his father Chandan Rajput said.

The two constables — Shubham Rathi and Akash Verma –arrived following information about gambling and allegedly got into a scuffle with Rajput before throwing him off the terrace, his father alleged. He said the deceased and his friends were playing cards but not gambling.

A large crowd gathered after the incident death, prompting the deployment of personnel from several police stations amid public anger.

Police had sent the body for postmortem. The last rites were performed subsequently.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Ravindra Kumar said the two accused constables have been suspended.

“The matter is being looked into and an investigation is underway,” he added. PTI COR CDN RC

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
