Gangtok, Apr 16 (PTI) The supply and distribution of LPG cylinders in Sikkim remain steady, with the backlog restricted to about 1.46 days, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in coordination with the state government and distributors, is closely monitoring supply lines to prevent disruptions, it said, adding that adequate stocks are being maintained at bottling plants and godowns to meet household demand.
The total pending LPG bookings in the state stand at 5,284, against an average daily delivery of 3,618 cylinders. At this rate, the backlog translates to just 1.46 days, reflecting efficient last-mile supply chain management, a senior Indian Oil official said.
To cater to students, migrant labourers and other temporary residents who do not have regular LPG connections or passbooks, 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinders are being made available through select distributors in Gangtok district, he said.
The government urged people to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel and LPG, assuring that adequate measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply.
It also advised people to rely on official sources for information, use digital booking platforms, and adopt energy conservation practices, including the use of alternative cooking options such as electric or induction cooktops where feasible. PTI CORR SOM
