Guwahati, Oct 29 (PTI) The front trolley of a locomotive hauling a passenger train derailed in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Assam on Thursday, disrupting railway services for several hours, an official statement said.

The incident took place around 8.50 am when the front set of wheels and its supporting frame beneath the locomotive of the 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express derailed between Badarpur and Sukritipur stations, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said.

The rear portion of the train, along with all its passenger coaches, was pushed back to Badarpur.

“All passengers are safe, and no casualties or injuries have been reported. A few trains running in the section are being regulated, while restoration work is being undertaken under the supervision of senior railway officials,” the NFR said in an earlier statement.

In an updated statement, the NFR said restoration had been completed.

“Train No 13126 (Sairang-Kolkata) Express was the first train to depart from Badarpur at 14:50 hrs following the incident and passed the affected site safely at 15:04 hrs,” it added.

Earlier, following the accident, the 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express was short-terminated at Badarpur.

Its corresponding service, the Guwahati-Silchar Express scheduled to commence its journey on Thursday, has been cancelled. PTI SSG SOM SSG MNB
